Leadville, Colorado is an historic "Old West" town made famous from it's silver mining boom. This book gives details about local businesses, such as merchants, banks, lumber yards, wagon makers, newspapers, photographers, mining firms, railroads, etc., as well as names, addresses and occupations of residents. Some of the most famous (and infamous) Wild Westerners spent time in Leadville in her heyday, many of whom are listed in this Directory. Influential brothel owner Miss Molly May, is one example, although Corbett and Ballenger spelled her name Mollie, residing at 129 w. 5th. Another name of interest, a man rumored to be Miss Mollie's silent partner, Horace Tabor is listed as Lieutenant Governor and President of the Bank of Leadville. History also credits him as a founder of the town in 1877 and a successful mine owner. Busy man. The other founder, August Meyer is listed as well. Edward J. Burns, aka "Big Ed Burns", a notorious Leadville character who eventually followed the smell of money to the Klondyke Gold Fields, alongside the likes of Alias Soapy Smith, is listed as a teamster residing at Big Evans gulch, appropriately named. Western History buffs can find hours of entertainment searching these pages for noteworthy names. Original covers, printed with ads, faded, bent, wrinkled but legible. Original spine fully legible. Splits at seams and wear to edges... see photos for full condition details. Iconic piece of Wild West history - rare to find an original printed copy. OCLC 10989270.
