Spectacular, I/U #166 to Nathaniel Page 104 shares, 1864. Unique and interesting vignettes. Lower left chip. According to Daily Alta California, Volume 16, Number 5140, 29 March 1864: "Several workings of the ore from the Santa Barbara Mine, Morelas Mining District, Chihuahua, Mexico, produced by S. F. Clousens' amalgamating process. Wheeler's pans, gives $1,100 to the ton in silver and gold. Second and third quality ore, from the same mine, worked at Wheeler A Thayer's mill, North Beach, produced $476.92 to the ton. This ledge has been purchased by the Cordillera Gold and Silver Mining Company, of this city, for the sum of $19,000. The ledge is seven feet wide, and well defined, from which the sample ore was taken giving this result. A mill is now being built at the Miners' Foundry for this Company, which will be shipped soon, and will be in operation, it is erected, before the rainy season commences."
