Group of original correspondence including letters and envelopes from creditors of J. Daugherty of Radersburg, Montana. Perhaps 50 or more pieces, plus covers. Letters from merchants, banks and individuals trying to get paid, obviously during tough times. The fact that these letters were carefully saved by Daugherty may indicate his intent to get them paid, if not already done so. Radersburg was a gold mining camp, discovered about 1865. It became the Jefferson County seat. But as the gold dwindled, so did business, and soon the county seat was moved to Boulder in 1883, the year this correspondence starts, reflective of the severe business downturn. The letters reflect payments from Daugherty in currency and gold.
