A group of about 100 items of printed letterheads and billheads with some personal correspondence, all from or related to Townsend, the county seat of Broadwater County, Montana. In 1883 a rail stop was established and named by the railroad to honor Susan Townsend, second wife of financier Charles Barstow Wright. It is about 35 miles north of Three Forks, where the Gallatin, Madison, and Jefferson Rivers converge to form the Missouri River, and thus claims the title of First City on the Missouri. Sorry, Three Forks.
