Cortez District. Invoice ledger for the related companies. Initial pages have alphabetical listing of creditors, with Cortez Mines Ltd. dominating p. 1-115, with Tenabo M &M on p. 116-240. Silver veins were discovered in the district in 1863. Simeon Wenban, along with George Hearst, formed the Tenabo M & M Co. and purchased many of the main properties, with Wenban buying out Hearst's interest in 1867. From 1889-1892 Tenabo M & M was operated by British syndicate Bewick-Moreing under the name Cortez Mines Ltd. The lease expired in 1892, Wenban died in 1895, and his heirs opereated the mine until 1903. Lessees operated the mine until 1919, at which time the property was sold to the Consolidated Cortez Silver Mines Co. Up to 8 billheads per page, 240 pages. Hardcover, measures 12" x 18".
