Fantastic pictorial pass for the Coulson Line for 1883. No. 268, issued to NS Hobart of the Central Vermont Railroad Company. Preprinted signature of General Manager Coulson. Countersigned by JC McVay. Front has great vignette of a paddlewheel steamboat! Reverse has the year (1883) printed with an anchor and rope. On cardstock. According to an 1881 ad for the line, it operated on the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers, Fort Benton to Bismarck and all points between. The town of Coulson, Montana was named for the Coulson Packet line of steamboats. Coulson served as a steamer port on the Yellowstone River. The company was named for brothers Sanford, John, Martin and William Coulson. Coulson, Montana is now a ghost town located in Yellowstone County, Montana, on the north bank of the Yellowstone River close to present day Billings.
