This counterfeit detector bond was removed from a copy of The American Bond Detector and Complete History of All the United States Government Securities Under the Sanctions of The Treasury Department Washington D.C. (Laban Heath) 1869, plate 19. Note that while all denominations for this bond issue have the central vignette of the United States Treasury, the $1,000 denomination has the vignettes of Navy at left and Army at right. At bottom center, is our national motto, In God is Our Trust. The coupons along the bottom of the bond exhibit the different denominations of this issue. At far left is the coupon for the $1,000 denomination and it is a portrait of Stephen A. Douglas. It is followed by Grant for the $500 bond, McCulloch for the $100, and Sherman on the $50.There is some "Toning" which is normal on this counterfeit detector bond.
