A cover with Full Face 40th Congress, House of Representatives Washington, D.C., c1867-69. Free postage via Ralph Pomeroy Buckland, former U.S. Representative from Ohio, with the autograph "RP Buckland, (NC?)", addressed to "RB Buckland, Fremont, Ohio", most likely his son, Ralph Broughton Buckland. Ralph Pomeroy Buckland (1812 - 1892) was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio's 9th district, in office from March 4, 1865 - March 4, 1869. He was as a brigadier general in the Union Army during the Civil War & an executive for the Union Pacific Railroad following the war. Born in Leyden, Mass., Buckland moved with his parents to Ravenna, Ohio, the same year. He was a lawyer, admitted to the bar in 1837 & began his practice in Fremont, Ohio. He served as the mayor of Fremont from 1843 to 1845 & was a delegate to the Whig National Convention in 1848. He served as a member of the Ohio State Senate from 1855 to 1859. [ Washington, D.C.
