This cabinet card is from the J.C. Burges Photographic studio in Holbrook, Arizona. The card measures 4 in. X 8.25 in. Burges set up shop in several northern Arizona towns in the mid-to late 1880's which puts him in Holbrook about 1884. The guns carried by this hombre are two Colt model 1873's, known today as the Peacemaker, and a Winchester model 1876 likely chambered for .40-60 or .45-60 judging from the brass on his ammo belt. He carried two Colts and a large frame Winchester when the average cowboy carried one each, rifle and pistol, likely chambered for the same cartridge. This man had been in tight situations before without backup and likely an enforcer. Slight foxing in the corners, light spotting, overall good contrast and condition.
