Gold Hill District, Storey County, N.T. (printed at upper left). Incorporated January 7, 1864. Stock number ONE, issued for 20 shares to William Hunt on January 18, 1864 in Gold Hill. Countersigned on reverse by Hunt. Signed by president O. H. Platt and secretary George W. Turney. Not cancelled. Black border and print, two vignettes: eagle on patriotic shield (top center) and allegorical woman (lower left). Gold Hill News Print. Pinholes, folds, a few stains, paper remnant on back lower left corner. Despite being advertised on the certificate as $500 each, the highest price I saw for a share being sold was $8. I only found reference to this company the first six months of existence. Hunt was a mover and a shaker at American City where he was located. This is a rare reference. Turney was a mining broker and secretary to many mines (at least 16!). Platt was a stock broker and commission agent. Notes on the people and company included.
