No. 6053. Issued for 100 shares on Feb. 8, 1900. Signed by JP Whitney as president and Downing as secretary. Not cancelled. Vignette of miners shoveling ore into cart. Very light soiling. Nice certificate! Joel Parker Whitney was a millionaire and very important figure in Colorado (and Wyoming, New Mexico and California) history. He made a fortune in the California Gold Rush as a merchant before heading to Colorado Territory in the 1860s. He authored an 1865 book on Colorado silver mining that many believe helped establish statehood. He continued to make money in the mining and railroad industries, as well as real estate in California and ranches in New Mexico. (Prag Collection) City: Leadville State: Colorado Date: 1900 ID# 34539
