This lot contains a business license for Crescenzo Dry Goods, a historic business once located in the small town of Austin, Nevada, as well as a metal sign that once hung in the store. John A. Crescenzo, an Austin local, founded the store in 1868; it was a fixture of the town's main street for decades until its closure in 1921. The Lander County business license, which was issued in 1896, bears the name of John's brother Solomon Crescenzo as well as county treasurer Dalton and auditor Murphy. It is in overall good condition with a few small holes and light foxing. The metal sign reads 'SCHOENFIELD & COOK / IMPORTERS AND DEALERS / IN BEDDING / AND UPHOLSTERY' in decorative script. It is structurally sound but has significant superficial wear; see photos. A unique and well-preserved piece of small town Nevada history. All information on Crescenzo Dry Goods comes from the Nevada State Journal.
