Lot of 2 different. 1) Portland Gold Mining Company. Inc. in Iowa. No. 1517, issued for 100 shares to W. Sauerbach on July 16th, 1897(?). Signed by JF Burns as president and James Doyle as secretary. Stamp cancelled. Green border, black print, and vignette of Colorado state seal. Glue residue on left border. James ("Jimmy") F. Burns became a millionaire after striking it rich in this company, the Portland Mine! 2) United Gold Mines Company. Inc. in Colorado. No. 5406, issued for 500 shares to JW Wright & Co. in 1906. Signed by Warren Woods as president and Arthur Willitt as secretary. Not cancelled. Black border and print with ornate logo. Pinholes, folds. Warren Woods and his sons, Frank and Harry, formed the Woods Investment Company and purchased a 136-acre site at the foot of Battle Mountain, where they platted a townsite and named it Victor, after an early homesteader named Victor C. Adams.
