Very nice pair of mother of pearl opera glasses with well polished brass hardware, faceted mother of pearl shell (2.75" ) La Corona, Paris, engraved on left side of eyepiece and F. J. Hooper, Cripple Creek, Colo engraved on the right eyepiece. F. J. Hooper (Frank Jackson Hooper) 1859-1925, was a jeweler & watchmaker. Approximately 150 buildings called opera houses were built in Colorado between 1860 and 1920. Most no longer exist. Fire destroyed several, including, in 1907, the 1897 Grand Opera House in Cripple Creek. For more Colorado-made opera glasses, please see the Denver and Leadville sections.
