Reese River MD. This Nevada Territorial stock certificate was issued to A. K. Stearns and dated Dec. 29, 1863. It is for 100 shares (of the 600 issued) at $500 per share and signed by James L. Pond secretary and J. B. E. Cavallier president. Crittenden was a power Comstock lawyer who was killed by a jilted lover, Pond was a mining investor throughout Nevada, Stearns was the most important land owner in Southern California in the 1860's, and Cavallier was the first president of the San Francisco Stock Exchange. Altogether a powerful group of men! Notes on Critenden's famous and infamous life and the Crittenden/Pond conflict
