Ira served as an instructor on Long Island after WW I and returned to his family in Colorado to establish the first commercial dealership for airplanes. He was designated the Curtiss Wright dealer and proceeded to demonstrate and sell Curtiss Orioles. He operated the first commercial airport in Colorado during 1919-1922. He owned and operated the Curtiss-Humphreys Airplane Co. in Denver. During his active flying years, he flew over Pike's Peak at Colorado Springs, in August 1919 with A.M. "Red" Lendrum. He also made the first flight from Denver to Estes Park with a special edition of the Denver Post on a promotion. Mr. Humphreys joined with many others who barnstormed around the country for a few years, until the day came when there were so many of these flyers that making a living with this activity became very difficult. The family of two pioneer Denver flyers donated the Grant-Humphreys mansion across the street from the Colorado Governor's mansion to the State of Colorado. It is now administered by the Colorado Historical Society. Ken Prag Collection
