This document is the Special Orders #118 reassigning an infantry soldier in 1867 signed by George Yates. It shows excellent clarity and penmanship. A cabinet card 4.25 in. X 6 in. from Washburn studio of Louisville, Ky. shows George in civilian cloths. Excellent clarity and strong coloration. George Walter Yates, like George Armstrong Custer, was from Michigan. They became close friends and he was part of the Custer wedding party. Later a Captain of Company F of the 7th Cavalry in 1876 he would perish along side is friend at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.
