Lieutenant E.G. Mathey was in command of General George Armstrong Custer's pack train and received Custer's last letter calling for him to "come on...be quick...bring packs" at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Mathey was pinned down but survived the battle. The lot includes a cabinet card from Teitzel photography in Junction City, Kansas. He is wearing his 7th Cavalry Kepi and Indian Wars uniform. A Special Requisition for fur caps and gloves dated 1878, signed by Mathey. All in excellent condition.
