Old Toby was one of Custer's Pawnee Indian Scouts is shown here in a cavalry coat with epaulettes. This cabinet card made by photographer J.C. Avery of Sedan, Kansas in the 1890's is in very good condition. Some minor foxing in the upper right side. A hand written note at the bottom describes Old Toby as a Custer scout. The Pawnee were great scouts against The Sioux and Cheyenne and considered them their enemies. Very little has been written about Old Toby and the Pawnees scouts were officially released from service in 1877. 4.25 in. X 6.5 in.
