This lot includes a cabinet card of 1st Lt. Winfield Scott Edgerly as well as a photograph of him in military dress, undated. The photo is marked on the back as from the "Dr. C.A. Frost collection." The Frost collection is the provenance of Custer material found in the attic of Libby Custer's home in Monroe, Michigan, now a suburb of Detroit. The cabinet card is in excellent condition at 4.25 in. X 6.5 in. while the photo is at 5 in. X 7in. depicting a younger man; possibly at his graduation from West Point class of 1870. Winfield Scott Edgerly was promoted to 1st Lt. the day before the Battle of The Little Big Horn making him second in command of Company D. Edgerly would survive the battle by joining Benteen's command but pinned-down and unable to assist Custer. He went on as Commander of Company G 7th Cavalry to fight the Battle/Massacre of Wounded Knee in 1890. He is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
