Hand made iron spur with tooled silver trim including hearts and chevrons. About 4x5". The rowel holder has a heavy bend with rowel missing. Includes a hand written card dated 3-29-64 which states, "This spur was picked up by Frank Rose of Coffeeville. He was there at the time of the shooting and found this spur in the dust in the road in front of the bank where one of the gang was shot and fell from his horse. That is the cause of the bent portion of the spur. Frank helped lay the men out in a row on the sidewalk in front of a store. Note their boots were removed. Some tradition I presume. Frank was W G Rose's brother and my uncle. Frank gave these things to dad in 1944 when he visited them in Holton, KS. Last Day/Oct. 5, 1892." 1996 hand written letter signed by Shirley and Paul, with Shirley being Frank Rose's granddaughter stating, "The spur is enclosed, and I hope this will satisfy anyone willing to buy these from me." The letter also references 2 family photos which are included, we are unsure of exactly who is in the photos. [] [] [] [] []
