Dan Simplicio (1917-1969) designed this peyote bird inlaid with jet, turquoise, mother of pearl and coral. The inlay is set onto an etched silver background. 1.5" x 1.5". Simplicio was most known for his nugget work, so this inlay is a rare find! He learned jewelry making from his uncle, Juan Dedios, and worked at C.G. Wallace’s trading post at Zuni, collaborating with master stonecutters. He used undulating leaf motif sin his art, possibly inspired by European art and design he saw during his service in World War II.
