Spectacular, naturally dark, smoky quartz from the Incline Village pegmatite, mined in the early 1970s by Reno mineral dealer Harvey Gordon. The crystal measures about 8.5" diameter and 13" tall. The faces are bright and shiny. There is a small chip to the top of the crystal. It is entirely natural, and never been "curated." Gordon found a pegmatite at Incline Village and mined a number of nice smoky quartz crystals. When I first moved to Reno in 1976 (FH), he had several for sale in the shop that I drooled over. This one was purchased by a local collector and has now resurfaced for sale. About 30 pounds. A good article about this smoky quartz occurrence can be found in Tahoe Quarterly at https://tahoequarterly.com/best-of-tahoe-2021/the-hunt-for-sierra-smokys.
