U.S.G.S. Bulletin 580-A, The Darwin Silver-Lead Mining District-California, by Adolph Knopf, Government Printing office 1914. 18 pp. softbound. Water damage, but doesnÍt effect readability in the slightest. Mines mentioned include the Christmas Gift mine, Lucky Jim mine, Defiance mine, Independence mine, Custer mine, Lane mine, Wonder prospect, Richardson prospect, Rip Van Winkle prospect and the Columbia mine. A short description of the Darwin district includes a small map on page 2 showing the locations of the mines mentioned. Also a description of the ore deposits and the geology of the district. Nice description of each of the mines listed above in the text. Cover slightly detached. The author notes that he has already covered the Cerro Gordo district previously and was now getting to Darwin. Knopf estimates that the Darwin district had produced between $2,000,000 and $3,000,000. Cool piece. Date 1914 Darwin, CA hwac 8723
