Zita Leota Vinson Dawson was born in Pueblo, CO on June 3, 1908. Zita would later move to Oregon and in 1926 she would marry Frank Dawson, the 7th child of Matthew and Elizabeth Dawson. The Vinson family was originally from Bellow Falls, Vermont, but made the trek out west in the late 19th Century. The family had ties to San Francisco as Zita's mother Mabel Smith Vinson, made trips to the city for work starting in 1915. There are several San Francisco items in this lots including four pieces that survived the 1908 earthquake. They are a glass dish, two framed French tapestries , and an elephant figurine. Once the Vinson family settled in Medford, Oregon, Zita's mother Mabel opened the “Tiny Tot School” which per our consigner is believed to the first kindergarten in Medford and perhaps the state of Oregon.

This lot includes several items including quilts, dishes, silverware, cookware, family photographs, original artwork, books, sheet music, crocheted tablecloths and bedspreads, homemade children's clothing, Chinese and Japanese paints and an 1877 French GRAS bayonet once owned by Zita’s Grandfather John B. Smith. The approximate size of this lot is 60 cubic feet. The consignor has also painstaking recounted an even more detailed family history available digitally online. Additional photos are also available online. More information and photographs are available upon request. The family also has retained some of the original furniture that is available should someone wish.

Please see Lot 4113 for a detailed oral history of the family from the consignor.
