In 1924 while working in California, Frank Dawson received a letter from his parents Matthew and Elizabeth insisting he come home and buy the part of Steamboat property. Earlier that year, Matthew and Elizabeth bought several acres in Steamboat from the Kohlhagen family of Roseburg for $8,000. Although Matthew and Elizabeth remand in Roseburg, Frank moved to the property and built a two-bedroom home and cultivated the land into a farm.

Although Frank and Zita married in Ashland, the people of Steamboat threw the young couple a memorable wedding celebration upon their arrival to their farm home. Life wasn’t always easy for the young family on the farm in Steamboat, often Frank would have to leave for other work elsewhere, but always returning home to his wife with a gift of a new dress to forgive his absences. The couple would go on to have two children and raised them close to family and amongst the beauty and nature of the Steamboat area until 1936.
