1866 - early statehood. Good strike. Cover is addressed to William Prows of Deserett City from Alma Prows. William Prows is arguably the first person to find gold at Gold Canyon on the Comstock and was in the first marriage in Nevada (while on a Mormon wagon train heading from Mexico to Utah). Both are written in history, but are contested by some historians. See full story. Prows was perhaps the most important early Nevadan that never lived in Nevada.
