This archive is a new discovery. It came with other pieces associated with masonic lodges in Virginia City, Gold Hill, and Silver City, which we have split into separate archives offered in this sale. However, much of the correspondence is between the Comstock lodges. The Valley Lodge No. 9 (of Dayton) received its dispensation from California in 1863/64. This archive includes: 1) Fourteen masonic publications and booklets. Includes: 1900 Masonic Code of Nevada; 1936 Masonic directory; eight copies of the 1878 Amendments to the Constitution, Published by the Order of the Grand Lodge; booklet about funeral services; and copies of a speech given in 1919. 2) Document archive of 300 or so pieces, spanning from 1865 to the 1920s and 30s. The majority of the material is pre-1900, concentrated on the late 1860s and 70s. Includes a large stack of Treasurer Drafts (1860s-1870s); a large correspondence collection (much of it from the mid to late 1860s); many manuscript documents; membership cards (post-1900); and much more. Worthy of inspection and cataloging!
