John Ryan signs a 3pp document requesting clearance of a 3.19 section of the old Ryan rail line from the Lila C mine to the Death Valley RR Co from the Tonopah & Tidewater RR Co., 1916, with map attached.
Ryan was secretary of the Death Valley RR Co. Borax Smith was president.
Ryan was an influential man in the Death Valley borax mining scene. He worked for Pacific Coast Borax, as did most all others. When the PCB Co. started to mine borax from the west side, a mining town quickly grew, aptly named Ryan. A mini railroad was built there using a "Baby Guage" rr, which later became a tourist attraction in the 1920s. Today, Ryan is closed off to thee public and is owned by the Death Valley Conservancy. It is a remarkable ghost town on the edge of Death Valley.
