1869 indenture between FJ Titus and Ira Parke & David Bowie. For $4,000 in gold coin, selling property located near the Winfield Mill in Sevenmile Canyon and bordering the Ophir property. Includes quartz tailings, sluices, tools, water tanks, and reservoirs--this sounds to us that they are buying a mill site. Signed by Titus and notary public Richard Thomas. 17 x 11" Separation along fold. Covered in revenue stamps: four 50 cent brown Nevada, two $1 red Nevada stamps, and eight 50 cent US IR Life Insurance stamps. Parke & Bowie owned several Comstock mill sites, according to Ansari. They bought the abandoned Gould & Curry mill in 1871, as well as the Express Mill, Janin & Parke Mill, and the Railroad Mill in Sixmile Canyon. Their mills were among the first tailings mill sites on the Comstock. David Bowie also served as supt. for the Gould & Curry for a brief period in the 1860s.
