B48 in Preble, c. 1869. This is an exceptionally rare mineral water style quart from Denver. It is a deep amber, heavily whittled, applied top. Pinhead nick on the top. Chip on the bottom, half inch below "Denver" and another quarter inch chip exactly opposite. This is a very heavy thick glass bottle that most people never knew existed. It is a key and important bottle for any western collector. While a number of early breweries surfaced in Denver and other early Colorado gold camp, none bottled their beer or products until J.E. Bates established the Denver Ale Brewing Co. in 1869. Preble recounts a lengthy story on the company, printed in the local newspaper in 1874 with additional info pages 34-37. Many collectors consider this the top, if not one of the great, Colorado embossed bottles.
