"The Switzerland Trail of America." No. 46, issued for 1915 to J.E. Preston (Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway). Signed by the general manager. Endorsed by Preston. Operated from Boulder to Ward, Colorado, heading up Fourmile Canyon and servicing the towns of Eldora and Nederland. It was originally the Greeley, Salt Lake & Pacific Railroad, founded in 1883. Flooding in 1894 caused significant damage. In 1897, it reorganized as the Colorado & Northwestern. In 1908, it reached Ward (celebrated with dynamite and whistles). In 1909, it finally became the Denver, Boulder & Western. It transported tourists and serviced the mining communities of Boulder County until flooding in 1919.
