This assay for gold from the Denver Mint is dated 1879 by the First National Bank for $260.18; 16.28 oz. of gold. A rare document. The Denver mint was established after gold was discovered near Denver in 1858. Denver was then a part of Kansas. Transportation was a serious issue for miners before railroads. More importantly, the Union needed to pay for the war effort in 1861 and made Colorado a territory of the Union. The document is signed by A.S. Webster. At 11.5 in. X 6 in. Minor spotting. Please see photo for details.
