On September 25, 1878 City National Bank deposited 773.223 ounces of gold for $699.96. H. Silver was assayer in charge and assay was done by A. S. Webster. In the Description of Bullion are “Am” and “Grs”. Am refers to the word amalgam. Grs refers to grains, typically placer gold. Bullion deposits from the 1870’s are extremely rare for the Denver Mint. We have only had a few in the last 20 years.
