1930S OKMULGEE OKLAHOMA TRADE SCRIPT (2)
A former Boom Town Okmulgee, Oklahoma grew from the discovery of oil. When
the search for oil started to decline in the early 1930’s it became a “Boom to Bust” town.
Okmulgee Oklahoma created this “Trade Script” during the Great Depression to stimulate the local economy.
These notes were intended to build trade for the merchants of Okmulgee. When a purchase was made from a city merchant, the customer was given a stamp to place on the back
of the script. 35 stamps (a full back) they could be redeemed for $1.00
in cash from the Okmulgee City Commissioner of Finance.
