During the short depression of 1907, some banks issued bearer checks in a specific amount, usually one dollar, which could be used as circulating currency. This is a $1 cashier's check issued to "any one" which was folded several times and obviously circulated as a one-dollar bill. A year later the currency crisis was over, and it is likely that this check/currency was kept as someone's keepsake. Strong folds, soil. Extremely rare.
