Dated Oct. 2nd, 1860. James H. Dowd of Carson County in the Territory of Utah (Nevada Territory wouldn't be formed till March 1861) sells to James Lansing of Alameda County, California for $500, 50 feet interest to acclaim of Gold and Silver known as the "Rose Lead" located in the Devils Gate Mining District in Carson County, Utah Territory. (The Devils Gate MD was located at Silver City, Nevada) "Together with all the dips, spurs and angles and all metals, ores and earth therein and all rights and privileges belonging.". There is the usual signatures and witnesses. Inside the double sheet (8.5 X 14 inches) is an attached Office of Utah Commission form from the San Francisco Office of Alexander Boyd, Commissioner Affirming the transaction record with his signature and red seal. The Quit Claim Deed form was printed on blue stock by Wm. B. Cooke, 158 Montgomery Block, S.F. A very early mining deed for Utah Territory.
