Dewey was a mining camp, thirty-one miles northeast of Reno near Pyramid Lake. The sender is Frank Blondin of Dewey. He was quite a character. After mining died at Dewey he stayed on and ran a one man mine and mill for decades. But he is best remembered as the man who single handedly capture hooligans shooting wild horses. He did complain to the sheriff at Reno, but the sheriff wasn’t going to send an officer 31 miles ‘in case’ these hooligans show up. So Dewey waited patiently, got the jump on them and marched them the 31 miles to Reno. The newspaper remarked that they arrived just as the jail was opening for business. Blondin bio included! 1907. Very strong strike over stamp. Reverse shows Commercial Row in Reno.
