Dioptase is an rich emerald-green to bluish-green, copper cyclosilicate mineral. Dioptase is a relatively uncommon mineral species found in arid regions where it forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zone of copper sulfide mineral deposits. This specimen was found in near surface workings of a small copper deposit on the Kaokoveld Plateau, a harsh desert of drifting sandunes and rocky mountains. This specimen is a cluster of transparent to translucent dioptase crystals with bright luster and color mottling due to an intergrowth with the blue-green mineral shattuckite. An outstanding example of the species. Dimensions (cm): 1.5 H x 3.6 W x 3.9 D. Location: Kaokoveld Plateau, Kunene Region, Namibia City: State: Namibia Date: HWAC# 53003
