Collection of memorabilia of famous banker Dixon Brabban, Lot of 21. He was born in London 1833, came over to California in 1849. Dixon Brabban was part owner of the Bank of La Porte, joining Simeon Wheeler in the Bank of La Porte's ownership when he purchased the Kleckner brothers stock, where he became president. He was a mason, tax collector (1883-1889) for Plumas and Lassen Counties and the portion of Sierra County north of Canyon Creek, general merchandiser (1889), and a Wells Fargo Agent (1888-1892). Brabban was also a resident and living at Secret Diggings in 1863, when he bought The Feather River and Secret Diggings Ditch from James F. Weber for $300 on October 29, 1863. The Marysville Appeal from 12 Apr 1885 writes about Brabban, on Page 3, "coming down from the mountains on his way to Oakland to visit his family". Brabban was registered for a deed of water rights from Frye's Creek (1000 inches) on Jan 21,1896 in the Oroville Daily Register, page 2. The Collection of materials revolving around his life include: 1) Leather lined personal trunk of Dixon Brabban, Print on side titled" Dixon Brabban La Porte, Cal", lockable (no key) , leather handle on top and inside has a loose insert with colored picture, that was most likely fashioned to the inside lid as a compartment. 2) 13x Bank of La Porte Bank Checks #3041-#3045, #3049, #3051, #3053-#3055, #3058, #3065, #3066, all signed by president Dixon Brabban dated from Aug 20, 1877 to Aug 27, 1877. All include a printed 2 cent IR stamp. Small, intricate mining vignette to left, black border and print by Lith. Britton & Rey, SF. 3) Photograph of the Brabban Home, on 775 12th street, Oakland, CA. It shows a gentleman, most likely Mr. Brabban posing in front of a 2 story house. B&W print n beige cardboard. 4) Page with Handwritten ancestry notes starting with the birth of Dixon Brabban on Apr 13, 1829, followed by 10 members of the Brabban family. 5) Business card of Dixon Brabban for Marysville Commandery No. 7, with his residence in La Porte, Plumas County, CA. 6) Letter, handwritten by Dixon Brabban on a page of London Assurance Corporation, Pacific Agency, La Ported on July 6, 1889. He wrote to his wife and children,2 pages. 7) Bound Receipt Book of Dixon Brabban and Simeon Wheeler, 492 pages of handwritten receipts ca. 1877-79, front page (hardcover) missing. This book is full of business dealings of the La Porte Bank, some of the first messages are faded, signed by Simeon Wheeler up to page 17, Brabban and Wheeler signed remaining receipts. According to newpaper.com, Dixon Brabban was first sworn into duty as president of the La Porte Bank on Jan 20, 1877 published by the Feather River Bulletin on Feb 3, 1877.
