A page of 16 autographs collected by a Brooklyn high school student who interviewed the personalities for articles in his high school newspaper. The top two autographs are unarguably Dizzy Dean and Jack Dempsey. The autographs were collected by student Isadore Gaiptman between May 1935 and May 1935. Gaiptman's father was a stage hand for the New York Play Houses. His main job was as costumer. This gave the young Isadore access to New York Theater's finest actors and actresses. Gaiptman had his interviewees sign his autograph sheet after each interview. He has the place (Theater name) and date of each.

Along with the fabulous page of autographs is a group of seven signed photographs to Isadore from many of these same people. See the list below.

Dizzy Dean signed this October 20, 1934 at the Hotel Edison. Dean was the hottest pitcher in baseball. He had just received the National League MVP (received 98% of the first place votes) and was the winningest pitcher in the World Series, winning the final 7th game for the St. Louis Cardinals. In the World Series, Dean pitched three of the seven games, 26 innings with a 1.76 ERA. In the final game he held the Detroit Tigers scoreless on six hits. When this autograph was signed, Dean was at the top of his game, the best he'd ever be, and was the best in baseball. We were unable to find an autograph verified from this important period available on the web.

Jack Dempsey, a world champion boxer, signed this autograph sheet at his restaurant, Dempsey Restaurant, in Manhattan March 6, 1935. Dempsey was world champion from 1919-1926, then lost two epic fights to Gene Tunney, the second on the "long count" call. In the 1920's, Dempsey was considered second only to Babe Ruth as a sports icon. After he retired from Boxing, Dempsey opened his restaurant in 1935, about the time this was signed. It became a very popular place. Gaiptman's introduction to Dempsey may have come through one of the actresses at one of the theaters he interviewed. Dempsey married four times, mostly to new York actresses.

Walter Huston, one of the all-time great actors, stage and film. Star of Treasure of the Sierra Madre and other greats. At the time he signed this, he was in a play at the Schubert theater. This collection contains a signed 8x10 photo to Isadore
