A very rare find. This is a shadowbox and a Premiere Booklet handed out at the opening of 1939 "Dodge City" directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Errol Flynn and Olivia De Havilland. This is one of 500 issued that night. This one was issued to co-star Alan Hale.

The shadowbox measures 36"x 49" and contains several old news clippings related to the premiere.

The copy of the program somehow ended up in the hands of 16-year-old Lois Gibson, daughter of famous silent movie cowboy Hoot Gibson.
The premiere took place in Dodge City, Kansas on April 1, 1939 and was attended by several stars of the film as well as a number of Warner Bros. contract players, who took a special train from Hollywood to Dodge City, Kansas. Because of the large number of out of town attendees, the studio had to rent out three theatres for the opening.

Some are directed, not only to the young teenager, but to her famous father. Autographs identified include Errol Flynn, Humphrey Bogart, Frank McHugh, Ed Sullivan, Jane Wyman, Gilbert Roland and Ann Sheridan, among others. There are many other signatures that can be made out, but they may have been behind the camera crew. Some others cannot be made out and may be friends and acquaintances. The movie was both a critical and financial success, being released what has been called the Golden Year for Hollywood, with movies like "Gone With the Wind," "The Wizard of Oz," "Stagecoach," "Gunga Din," Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and many others.

This is a real slice of Hollywood history. Please see photos for more details.
