This is a duo of photographs taken in the 1880's of the Dodge City Cowboy Band and one of the band's drummers.
The 8'x 10" group shot of the band is dated on the back, April 16, 1889 and has the band posing in front of a herd of cattle and grazing horses.
The solo portrait of the drummer was taken by The Carpenters Photographic Rooms of Kansas City, with no date noted.
The Dodge City Cowboy Band was formed in the early 1880's and in contrast Dodge's reputation as a rip-roaring lawless cow town, the Cowboy Band was applauded throughout the West as they appeared at various venues and events.
A very rare find.
