"Courtesy of Free Transportation and Personal Packages." Number 1213 issued to FC Anderson of the Quebec, Montreal & Southern Railway. Signed by president WS Stout. In the spring of 1882 W. S. Stout, recently arrived from St. Louis, opened an express mail office In a one storey frame shack at 211 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg. The number marks today the premises occupied by the city offices of the Dominion Express company. The shack was the first office In which the Dominion Express company ever transacted business in Winnipeg and Mr. Stout was the first manager of the company's first office. He had one wagon and one driver! [Winnipeg Tribune] The Dominion Express Company was gobbled up by the Canadian Northern Railway. Date: Location: zCanada HWAC # 53572
