Primarily used in the 1950s-1960s, the Dow Jones stock ticker tape machine was eventually replaced by the invention of the computer. These machines were were known as broad tape tickers because they printed on a 5" wide paper. These ticker tape machines communicated stock quotes, telegrams, cables, and other stock market news.
