Only known example. Lefevre is called the "Red Light District Druggist" by Holabird. Pictorial letterhead for the French & American Drug Store, Dr. JBB Lefevre (of Paris). Left side lists numerous medicines sold. Dateline Virginia City, Nev., May 6th, 1875. Addressed to JE Wratten. Message is regarding a dispute over freighting charges for crates from F. Pollard, Cleveland. 8 x 10" Pinholes, deep folds, 3 inch separation. Lefevre came with his family from France to California during the Gold Rush. Other members of his family were also involved in the drug business. JBB opened his store in Virginia City in 1868. His store focused on women's drugs and goods, and Lefevre successfully catered to this neglected group, including the brothels. His store was rebuilt after the 1875 fire. He died in 1875/76, and his son continued the business. When prostitution became a political issue in 1878, the son left VC for San Francisco.
