Letter from E.C. Grissel & Co., general merchant in Washington, Nevada County to F. Searls regarding some past bills dating back to 1901. Any paper from the tiny town of Washington is quite rare as the town was about the size of one block. Founded by 1849 by miners from Indiana, Washington was originally called Indiana Camp. Located on the South Fork of the Yuba River. There was much placer, hydraulic and hard rock mining in the area. The town is the only one to survive in the area and still maintains a population of about 200. Tiny fold split. Folded in half horizontally. City: Washington State: California Date: HWAC# 51247
