E. Justh was one of the San Francisco assayers/bankers (with Hunter) who minted gold ingots that were aboard the SS Central America when it sank. This memorandum is for his assay office in San Francisco and for a gold bullion deposit by Fretz & Ralston (Forest Hill, CA). Ralston is William Chapman Ralston, more known to Nevada historians for founding the powerful Bank of California and using it to monopolize operations on the Comstock Lode. This deposit was 100.62 oz., .875 fineness. Signed by E. Justh. This deposit represents Ralston receiving a payment in gold from Forest Hill merchants Hardy & Kennedy and then sending it to be melted so then Justh could pay him cash. 5.25" x 10.25" Some stains. Very rare. Date: Location: San Francisco, California HWAC# 50920
