3x Eastern Nevada mining company stock.

1. Gila Silver Mining Company stock certificate No. 10686, incorporated January 23, 1875 in California. Issued to Atkinson Doud & Company for 3 shares ($100 per share) in San Francisco. Location: Reveille Mining District, Nye County, Nevada (printed under title). Signed by the Vincent Neales (president) and William Parrish (secretary). Uncanceled. Black border and print. Vignette of mine hoist (left). 5x9.25". Pinholes, folds, heavy toning.

The Reveille district is 35 miles from Tybo. In Thompson and West's 1881 "History of Nevada", the Gila is mentioned as the major mine in the Reveille District. It had a shaft of 460' and a tunnel 1000' long.

The Gila was the major producer of this district. It ran from 1874 to 1891 and produced $530,000 of the $611,000 produced by the district. "The claim of this company, located above, embracing several locations, aggregating 100,000 feet, has been but partially prospected, but that little brought to light large bodies of milling ore, which return average assays of $100. Assays have been made high as $600. The mine is in a prosperous condition and work is pushed rapidly." (Annual Mining Review and Stock Ledger, 1876, p. 48).

2. Rock Creek Mining Company stock certificate No. 135, incorporated October 31, 1877 in California. Issued to A.K. Durbrow for 1000 shares ($100 per share) on November 5, 1877. Signed by John A. Paxton (president) and A.K. Durbrow (secretary). Uncanceled. Black border and print. Lith. Britton, Rey & Company, San Francisca. 4.25x9".

The Rock Creek Mine was originally called the Scorpion. it showed promise but had no major production, and was located by the short-lived mining camp Falcon. The Elko papers predicted it would be the next mining amp boomtown, but rising water in the mines and difficult to process ore doomed the city in less than a year. Durbrow was involved with such Comstock mines as the Gould & Curry (secretary for two decades), California and Potosi. John A. Paxton was one of California's richest men, acquiring that wealth as president of the Manhattan Silver Mining Company in Austin.

3. Independence Consolidated Mining Company stock certificate No. 83, incorporated march 18, 1869 in California. Treasure Hill, White Pine, Mining District Nevada (printed at top). Issued to J. Clem Uhler for 50 shares ($100 per share) on April 26, 1869 in San Francisco. Signed by M.J. McDonald (president) and R. Wegener (secretary). Uncanceled. Fancy black print and border with vignette of George Washington on horseback. Printed around the vignette are the names of the lodes with the total length, these include "Independence 6000ft, Vallejo 800ft, Glengarry 1000ft, Bernadotte 1000ft, Black Prince 1000ft, and Edward Everett 1000ft". Printed by C. Harrison, San Francisco. Adhesive revenue stamp on left. 4x9.25".

In less that two years over 13,000 claims were located on Treasure Hill; most of them were never worked. By 1868, Treasure Hill's population swelled to 6,000. Probably as much as $20 million in silver was mined by 1880 (Paher).
