Lot of 2. Rare. The Eagle Salt Works deposits were discovered in 1869 by B.F. Leete in Churchill County, Nevada, 15 miles east of Wadsworth. Salt was an important component in the milling process of Comstock ores. 1) Nevada Bank of San Francisco, 1878, issued to Maine & Winchester. Signed by Bonanza King mining millionaire and US Senator James G. Fair. RN-F. Purple stamp "Eagle Salt Works" on left border. Some soiling. Maine & Winchester were a big and important saddlery business in San Francisco. 2) Check on same form, issued in 1878 to AL Bancroft & Co. Signed for James Fair by Patton. Soiling. Bancroft was an important publisher of books and maps.
